The design of the Oryza house is the result of the sun trajectory, the winds characteristics, the land shape and the location of olive trees.
The construction system creates an envelope with a high thermal resistance. The insulation is 25cm in the walls, 24cm in the roof and 12cm on the slab. The heating demand is covered by a biomass stove.
Appliances, lighting and water heating are powered by an isolated photovoltaic generation system of 3,10Kwp. The electrical energy is stored in batteries.
The house also has a rainwater storage system. We use this water to flush the toilets, to clean clothes and to irrigate the garden.
The Oryza House is considered a nearly Zero Energy Building due to its low heating demand and the self-generation of electricity.
